So I'm really into horror books right now. Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Ray Garton--you name it, just scare me and I'M THERE! I stayed away from those types of books for many years, but suddenly the thought of being scared witless holds a certain appeal to me that I can't resist. Vampires? Suck away! Zombies? Hey, follow me if you dare. My imagination takes over, wanting only to get to that next seciton of the book where I'm ready to throw the book across the room to keep the demons away. Ah, how fun is that?

I think the only horror genre book I own is The Best of H.P. Lovecraft: Bloodcurdling Tales of Horror And The Macabre. A compilation of short stories, the book is a great read. Lovecraft is responsible for coming up with the great beast Cthulhu and spawning the whole Necronomicon bit (as seen in the Evil Dead/Army of Darkness series). I can highly recommend the compilation.

PS, thanks for the advice on that short story collection. I've heard of it but haven't picked it up yet. I'll check it out.

LittleW, I've read the DT series and thought it was really great. Not perfect, but my gawd the man has such imagination! I'll be interested to hear what you think of DT7. I just loved that series.

I own some McCammon and I've heard good things about Swan Song, but I haven't read him yet. He's on my short list, though! I recently read a couple of Richard Laymon books--really good writing with a touch of humor and some really sick scenes. Enjoyed him very much. Ray Garton's book was great as well.
